On 9/11 National Guardsmen, “citizen soldiers,” left their homes and jobs, mobilized and responded, most without specific orders to do so. Within hours of the attacks, thousands of troops were in position, stabilizing the city. The initial response of the New York Army National Guard, included the 27th Brigade, 53rd Troop Command and the 42nd Division. Never in America’s history has the National Guard force done as much for so long for homeland and national defense.
We also want to thank National Guard solider from across the country who responded in the aftermath of 9/11 and continue to protect our nation.
